Support East-West Rail's Aylebury Link
The Buckingham Liberal Democrats have always supported the East West Rail Link and the prospect of a new (re-opened) station at Quainton. We are deeply disappointed that the Aylesbury Link is in the balance and want to urge the government to reconsider this decision. Buckinghamshire Council have written to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps urging him to confirm Government support and funding for the Aylesbury link section of East-West rail.
After contributing millions of pounds to the project, Buckingham and Aylesbury Vale taxpayers are at risk of being ignored by East-West Rail. Despite promises made by the Conservatives, the Department of Transport has made no commitment to deliver the desperately needed spur to re-join the Aylesbury - Milton Keynes - Oxford, East West Rail link.
The long-planned rail connection would deliver economic growth to our area and provide much-needed infrastructure for the tens of thousands of new housing that the Conservative-led Buckinghamshire Council is building on our green spaces. If the Aylesbury Spur is not delivered as promised this will be the latest in a long line of broken infrastructure promises and wasteful spending of taxpayers' money by local and national Conservatives.
Please sign our petition below calling on Chris Heaton-Harris, Minister of State for Railways, to get you as Taxpayers what you keep getting promised - real rail infrastructure investment, and build our Aylesbury Spur as planned.
