Yet another Tory Council waste of money

Marlow Bridge Bollards

After spending £110,000 on width restrictions just over a year ago, the Highways authority has discovered that the bollards in place on Marlow Bridge were not stopping larger overweight vehicles from crossing. Hence recently, at significant further expense the width of the bollards has been narrowed further. Local Lib Dems have pointed out that simple tests in advance could have avoided the huge over-expenditure. Even with the new bollards overweight commercial vehicles have been photographed recently crossing the bridge illegally. The bollards don't seem to work and this Tory Council waste could easily have been avoided.

The restriction bollards were first put in place on the Grade I listed bridge in 2016 after a 37-tonne haulage lorry attempted to pass over the bridge, meaning it had to be closed for two months whilst Buckinghamshire highways undertook a number of stress tests and safety inspections. The bridge can be badly damaged by overweight vehicles crossing and repairs are hugely expensive.

It is vital that we preserve the wonderful bridge designed by William Tierney Clark and opened in 1832. It is much treasured and one of the jewels of Marlow. The bridge gets very busy as it is used as a shortcut to the A404 Marlow Bypass.

Are you finding the new bollards difficult to navigate in an ordinary sized car? What do you think would be a solution to the overweight traffic problem? Let us know your ideas.
