2009 Liberal Democrat County Council Manifesto

12.36.55pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 23rd May 2009

Buckingham and Aylesbury Lib Dems have launched the 2009 Liberal Democrat County Council Manifesto.

The manifesto called 'Making it happen in Bucks' sets out how different a Lib Dem run County Council could be, after 120 years of Tory rule.

Lib Dem County leader Cllr Mary Baldwin said "in the last four years we have proven we are not afraid to fight our corner."

Strong record

The Lib Dem County group has a strong record of forcing debates on important items that the Tories wanted to brush aside. We have asked over 140 written questions and handed in numerous petitions

such as the one to calm Bierton's traffic.

Challenges

We have constantly challenged the Tories and have had some notable successes in Adult Social Care and

Children's Centres where we succeeded in getting the Tories to change the way they did things.

Education

We are fighting for extra funding for the town's upper schools and for more primary school places in schools such as St Mary's in Fairford Leys.

Strong team

The County Lib Dem group are also well known and respected for punching above their weight and fighting for ordinary people. Last year the group grew in strength as all the Labour County Councillors crossed

the floor and joined the Lib Dems. This move strengthened the team and proved that Labour's days are numbered. The Lib Dems are now the only opposition party in Bucks.
