Local Liberal Democrats have followed up the election of new party leader Nick Clegg by handing out information to passers-by in central Aylesbury.

Councillors and other activists from both Aylesbury and Buckingham constituency parties manned the stall, and talked to local people about plans for the future under Mr Clegg's leadership.

"We had a good response and managed to recruit several new members," said Gareth Davies, press officer for the Buckingham constituency party.

"There is a lot of interest in Nick Clegg's election, and both local parties are looking forward to a bright 2008 as we put our plans and aspirations before local people."
