Quarry 2 from Pitstone Hill

POSTED 2ND MAY

County councillor Avril Davies has been involved in the ongoing saga of Pitstone quarry 2, on the edge of the beautiful Chillters escarpmewnt, for as long as she has been a local councillor - 18 years. .

15 years ago she campaigned against proposals to turn it into a giant repository for household waste. They were turned down. Now amended plans to restore quarry 2 are being considered by Bucks County Council.

They could bring noise disruption and traffic to the site for far longer.

The original plan was approved in principle to enable the quarry to be restored, and did not involve more traffic than was already allowed to Ivinghoe Aston, which this site was to replace.

The new plan proposes to recycle material to take to landfill near Leighton Buzzard. New Environment Agency licensing rules may require clay lining material to be brought in.

"If the scheme is agreed the old planning conditions will lapse, leaving no guarantee of restoration if the new scheme can't be completed," said Avril Davies.

Avril has written to the County Council reminding them that the planning inspector for Cairns Skips on Cheddington Airfield made it quite clear that the roads in this area are inadequate and inappropriate for any additional traffic of this nature, and to ask that the impact of the new proposals on the Chilterns is re-evaluated.
